How to Safely Dispose of Old TVs

You might have to sign some paperwork, but even this may not be a requirement. If you are lucky, you won't have to pay a dime for the disposal. Many stores, however, charge a fee for the disposal service.

It is possible to simplify the disposal of an old TV and do a friend a favor at the same time. If you have a friend who wants a TV, and your old TV still works well, you can let them take it over. Another great option for TV disposal is to sell it off on eBay. The e-commerce site allows you to auction off all kinds of possessions, including electronic equipment. While you may be tired of your TV set, someone else around your city or across the country might have use for it.
People who buy TVs include not just consumers, but businesses that want to use the electronic equipment parts for repair purposes. If your TV set is of a popular make and model, listing it on eBay could be one way to get rid of the set while making a few bucks in the process.
Give the TV Away on Craigslist
In case your neighbors don't want the TV and no-one has bought it yet on an e-commerce site, you can always give it away through a local dealing site like Craigslist. The site lets you list all your electronics and other products for free. You can list unwanted TVs and other electronics so that interested people can come get them.
The beauty of dealing via Craigslist is that, since you are dealing locally, the recipient can come fetch the item themselves. This eliminates the need for you to pay shipping costs to ship the TV to the recipient. In fact, since your disposal costs are zero, you can afford to give away the TV for free if you want.
Take Electronics to the Salvation Army
You can also donate your TV to an organization such as the Salvation Army and others which run recycling programs. These organizations, in turn, recycle the TVs and other give them away or sell them at low prices to families or other individuals who need a cheap TV. Donating your TV lets your set find a second home where it will contribute to the joy and entertainment for a needy family. You get to do some good while getting rid of something you no longer need.
